ResponderStrong — Free Anonymous Wellness Tools for First Responders

Nationwide
Enrolling now

ResponderStrong is a free wellness tool and peer community for frontline medical workers, emergency responders, and their families. Founded in 2016 at the National Mental Health Innovation Center at the University of Colorado Anschutz, ResponderStrong is built as a collaboration between emergency responders and their advocates — a recognition that the people best positioned to design responder mental health tools are responders themselves. The platform combines self-assessment, peer-developed mental health content, family resources, and a peer-led approach that respects responder culture.

What to Expect

ResponderStrong offers a free mobile-friendly platform with mental health resources curated specifically for emergency responders and their families: stress and resilience tools, peer-narrated content addressing the specific challenges of the job, family-specific guidance for spouses and children of responders, sleep and substance use resources, and connection to vetted clinical providers when needed. The platform is designed to be used anonymously and privately — no department reporting, no occupational consequences. ResponderStrong also publishes research and trainings for departments wanting to build sustainable wellness culture.

Who This Group Is For

ResponderStrong serves all U.S. emergency responders — police, fire, EMS, dispatch, corrections, healthcare workers (frontline medical staff), search-and-rescue — plus the family members supporting them. The family component is particularly notable; spouses and children of responders often face their own mental health challenges (vicarious stress, parenting around shift work, family disruption from major incidents) that the platform addresses directly. Anonymous, on-demand access makes the tools accessible to responders worried about confidentiality.

Why Peer Support Works

Emergency responders consistently describe needing tools and conversations that come from people who understand the job — not generic wellness content that doesn’t account for shift work, traumatic exposure, identity tied to service, or the cultural realities of department life. ResponderStrong’s peer-developed content addresses that gap. Combined with the family resources, the platform serves a population that has often been an afterthought in mainstream mental health spaces.

How to Join

ResponderStrong is free and anonymous. Visit responderstrong.org to access the wellness tools, browse responder-specific resources, and connect with peer support. The platform is built for self-paced engagement; no signup or department disclosure is required.
