Houston Health Network — Free Caregiver Support Groups in Houston, TX

Enrolling now

The Houston Health Department’s Caregiver Support Network is part of the Harris County Area Agency on Aging. It connects unpaid family caregivers in the Houston metro to free support groups, education programs, counseling, bilingual resources, and one-on-one referrals to community services. As a city-funded program, the Caregiver Support Network is built to serve the linguistic and cultural breadth of Houston, with services available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages.

What to Expect

Caregivers who reach out to the Caregiver Support Network are matched to a combination of services that fit their situation. Free support groups meet at locations across Harris County and online, providing a confidential space where family caregivers can talk about what’s happening at home, hear from others in similar situations, and learn about resources they may not have known existed. Bilingual groups and bilingual counseling are available. The Network also runs caregiver education classes and helps families navigate Medicare, Medicaid, in-home care, and respite options.

Who This Group Is For

The Caregiver Support Network serves unpaid family caregivers in Harris County who are caring for an adult 60 years or older, an adult with a disability, or a child being raised by an older relative. Caregivers don’t need to share a home with their loved one to qualify. The program is especially valuable for caregivers who are new to navigating the aging-services system, who speak a language other than English, or who are juggling caregiving with full-time work and need flexible, low-barrier support.

Why Peer Support Works

Houston caregivers often describe feeling like they’re doing everything alone — managing a parent’s medical care, a spouse’s mobility decline, or a relative’s dementia, all while holding a job. The Caregiver Support Network’s combination of group support, counseling, and referral services builds a small, reliable network around the caregiver: a place to talk, a person to call, and a list of resources that have already been vetted. Over time, that network reduces the burnout that comes from carrying it alone.
