About The Compassionate Friends – Fairfax

The Compassionate Friends Fairfax Chapter provides peer-led grief support for bereaved parents, grandparents, and adult siblings following the death of a child of any age, from any cause. Part of a national organization with chapters across the country, the Fairfax chapter offers a safe space where bereaved families can share their grief, find understanding from others who have experienced similar loss, and discover hope for the future.

What Groups Are Offered?

The chapter holds monthly peer-led support group meetings where bereaved family members share their experiences, discuss coping strategies, and offer mutual support. The group is open to parents who have lost a child at any age—from infancy through adulthood—and to any cause of death. Grandparents and adult siblings are also welcome. The chapter may also host special events such as candlelight remembrance ceremonies and holiday support gatherings.

Who Can Join?

The group welcomes any bereaved parent, grandparent, or adult sibling grieving the death of a child, regardless of how long ago or how recent the loss. There is no requirement regarding cause of death, age of the child, or any other criteria. You do not need to register in advance for most meetings.

The Fairfax chapter meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM at a community location in Fairfax, Virginia. Check the chapter website for specific venue information and any schedule changes.
