About Salt Lake City Vet Center
The Salt Lake City Vet Center is a community-based counseling center operated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, providing readjustment counseling and outreach services to eligible veterans, active duty service members, and their families. Vet Centers offer a confidential, non-medical environment where veterans can receive individual and group counseling for issues related to military service, including combat stress, PTSD, military sexual trauma, and the challenges of transitioning to civilian life.
What Groups Are Offered?
The Salt Lake City Vet Center offers group counseling sessions for combat veterans, PTSD processing groups, military sexual trauma (MST) support groups, bereavement groups for families of fallen service members, and transition and readjustment groups. Groups are facilitated by licensed counselors, many of whom are veterans themselves. The center also provides individual counseling, couples and family counseling, and referrals to additional VA and community services.
Who Can Join?
Services are available to veterans who served in combat zones or areas of hostility, veterans who experienced military sexual trauma, and active duty service members (including National Guard and Reserve). Family members of eligible veterans may also receive services. You do not need to be enrolled in VA healthcare to receive Vet Center services, and there is no requirement for a service-connected disability rating.

What to Expect
Vet Centers are intentionally separate from VA medical centers to provide a more personal, community-based experience. The atmosphere is welcoming and designed to feel less institutional. Counselors understand military culture and the unique challenges of service. Group sessions provide a space where veterans can share with others who have had similar experiences. No clinical records are shared with the VA medical system without your consent.
Cost & Confidentiality
All Vet Center services are provided completely free of charge to eligible veterans and their families. Vet Center records are kept separate from VA medical records, providing an additional layer of privacy. All counseling is confidential in accordance with federal regulations.
