Postpartum Support Virginia (Statewide, VA)
About Postpartum Support Virginia
Postpartum Support Virginia (PSVa) provides education, support groups, and resources for individuals experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) including postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum OCD, and perinatal mood disorders. With support groups and resources available across the state and online, PSVa connects new and expecting parents with professional support during one of life’s most challenging transitions.
What Groups Are Offered?
PSVa coordinates support groups throughout Virginia for mothers and fathers experiencing perinatal mood disorders. Groups are facilitated by licensed mental health professionals, including therapists and counselors specializing in perinatal mental health. Groups address postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD, birth trauma, and adjustment challenges. Both in-person groups (in Virginia Beach, Northern Virginia, Vienna, Suffolk, and other areas) and virtual groups are available to ensure statewide access.
Who Can Join?
Support groups welcome any pregnant or postpartum individual experiencing emotional difficulties, mood changes, anxiety, or adjustment challenges during the perinatal period. Partners and family members may also find support through PSVa resources. No formal diagnosis or referral is required—if you are struggling during pregnancy or after birth, you are welcome.
Meeting Schedule & Location
In-person groups meet at locations across Virginia on regular schedules. Virtual groups provide access for those in underserved areas or who prefer online participation. A directory of current groups and schedules is available on the PSVa website.

What to Expect
PSVa support groups provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can share your experiences with perinatal mood challenges alongside others who understand. Licensed facilitators guide discussions and provide psychoeducation about PMADs, normalizing the experience and offering evidence-based coping strategies. Groups help reduce the isolation that often accompanies perinatal mood disorders and connect participants with professional treatment resources when needed.
Cost & Confidentiality
Many PSVa support groups are offered free or at low cost. Confidentiality is maintained in all group settings, and facilitators adhere to professional ethical standards regarding privacy.
