Muslim Wellness — Free Muslim Mental Health Support & Trainings
The Muslim Wellness Foundation (MWF) is a Philadelphia-based national nonprofit dedicated to reducing stigma associated with mental illness and emotional distress in the American Muslim community. Founded by Dr. Kameelah Mu’Min Rashad, MWF combines education, advocacy, training, peer support, and convenings — including the annual Black Muslim Psychology Conference — to build a culture of Muslim wellness rooted in Islamic tradition.
What to Expect
MWF runs Mental Health First Aid trainings tailored for Muslim community settings, support groups for Black Muslim community members, leadership development for Muslim mental health professionals, and educational programming on topics like spiritual abuse, healing from racism within Muslim spaces, and family wellness. The annual Black Muslim Psychology Conference brings together Black Muslim clinicians, scholars, imams, and community members to advance the field. MWF also publishes resources, hosts webinars, and partners with mosques, MSAs, and community organizations on mental wellness programming.
Who This Group Is For
MWF serves American Muslims broadly — with particular care for Black Muslim community members, who are often underrepresented in mainstream American Muslim spaces and in mainstream Black mental health spaces. Members include Muslims navigating their own mental health, mental health professionals serving Muslim clients, imams and chaplains building wellness programming in their communities, and educators and parents wanting to support young Muslims.
Why Peer Support Works
American Muslims navigate intersecting realities — faith, ethnic and racial identity, post-9/11 surveillance and Islamophobia, and the cultural expectations of their families and mosques. MWF’s intentionally intersectional approach — Black and Muslim, faith and clinical, individual and systemic — produces resources and community that recognize the full picture rather than asking community members to compartmentalize. The Black Muslim Psychology Conference in particular has become a generative space for the field.
