Free Nar-Anon Family Peer Support — Online & Nationwide
Nar-Anon Family Groups is a worldwide 12-step fellowship for the family and friends of someone with a drug problem. Founded in the 1960s as the parallel program to Narcotics Anonymous, Nar-Anon meetings give loved ones a place to find their own recovery while their family member struggles with addiction.
What to Expect
Confidential one-hour meetings where members share experience, strength, and hope. The 12-step program teaches that loved ones cannot cure or control someone else’s addiction — what they can do is take care of themselves, set healthy boundaries, and find peace amid the chaos. The only requirement for membership is that there is a problem of drugs or addiction in a relative or friend.
Meeting Formats
In-person meetings throughout the US and 40+ countries. Virtual meetings via Zoom available across multiple time zones, including some 24-hour options. Narateen meetings for teenagers (12–18) affected by someone else’s drug use are also free and peer-led.
Who This Group Is For
Parents, siblings, partners, spouses, adult children, and friends of someone with substance use disorder. The drug or substance doesn’t matter — opioids, stimulants, marijuana, prescription drugs. The relationship matters: anyone affected by someone else’s addiction is welcome.
Why Peer Support Works
Family members of addicts often experience their own form of trauma — hypervigilance, codependency, anxiety, isolation. Nar-Anon provides community, a program of recovery, and the relief of being among people who get it without explanation.
How to Join
Walk in to any open meeting — no registration, dues, or intake. Use the meeting finder at nar-anon.org/find-a-meeting to filter by location, day, and format including virtual options.
