MHA Tarrant — Free Mental Health Support Groups — Fort Worth, TX
Mental Health America of Tarrant County (MHA Tarrant) is a Fort Worth-based nonprofit promoting mental wellness across Tarrant County through peer-led support groups, advocacy, prevention programming, and community education. MHA Tarrant runs free support groups covering a range of mental health concerns — anxiety, depression, mood disorders, family support, and condition-specific peer communities — facilitated by trained MHA staff and peer leaders with lived experience.
What to Expect
MHA Tarrant’s support groups meet on a regular schedule and serve specific peer communities across the county. Groups are open to new members, free to attend, and follow a confidential peer-driven format. Beyond support groups, MHA Tarrant runs Mental Health First Aid trainings (the national evidence-based program for spotting and responding to mental health crisis), prevention programming for schools and workplaces, advocacy at the county level, and community education events throughout the year. The organization also publishes resources for Tarrant County residents on accessing mental health care and navigating local systems.
Who This Group Is For
MHA Tarrant serves Tarrant County residents seeking mental health peer support, education, and community — across Fort Worth, Arlington, and surrounding cities. Members include people in various stages of mental wellness work, family members supporting loved ones, educators and school staff, workplace wellness teams, and community advocates. The MHA framework is intentionally inclusive across diagnoses, treatment paths, and stages of life.
Why Peer Support Works
Mental Health America’s affiliate model has anchored community mental health peer support across the country for more than a century — and MHA Tarrant brings that history into local Tarrant County community life. Peer-led groups give participants a place where mental health is discussed openly without judgment, which often reduces the stigma that keeps people from seeking care in the first place. For Fort Worth residents, MHA Tarrant complements NAMI Tarrant’s peer support work and together gives the county a robust mental health community infrastructure.
