Al-Anon AFG — Free Al-Anon Family Peer Support — Tampa Bay
Al-Anon Family Groups offers free, peer-led mutual support for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking — partners, parents, adult children, siblings, and friends. The Tampa Bay District 8 of Al-Anon coordinates dozens of in-person, hybrid, and virtual meetings across Hillsborough and surrounding counties.
What to Expect
One-hour confidential meetings where members share their experience, strength, and hope without giving advice. Newcomers are welcomed warmly and never required to speak. Some meetings focus on specific populations: parents, adult children of alcoholics (ACA), men, women, beginners. Anonymity is foundational — what is shared in the room stays in the room.
Meeting Schedule
Multiple meetings every day of the week across Tampa Bay. Use the meeting finder at tampabayalanon.org/meetings to filter by day, time, format (in-person, online, hybrid), and meeting focus. Many meetings are open — meaning anyone can attend — while some are restricted to family members of alcoholics only.
Who This Group Is For
Anyone who has been affected by someone else’s drinking, regardless of whether that person is in recovery or still actively drinking. Friends and family of drug users are also welcome, though Nar-Anon meetings (the sister fellowship for families of drug users) may be a better fit and are also free and peer-led.
Why Peer Support Works
Living with someone in active addiction or recovery is isolating. Al-Anon connects you with people who understand without explanation, offers a structured program (the 12 Steps adapted for families), and lets you focus on your own well-being rather than trying to change the person who is drinking.
How to Join
Walk in to any open meeting — no registration, dues, or intake. Call the District 8 information line at (813) 881-9372 for help finding a meeting that fits, or visit tampabayalanon.org for the full directory and the new-member welcome guide.
