Free Al-Anon Family Peer Support — Online & Nationwide
Al-Anon Family Groups is a worldwide fellowship of friends and family of people with alcohol use disorder. Since 1951, Al-Anon has offered free, peer-led 12-step recovery for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking — partners, parents, adult children, siblings, and friends.
What to Expect
Hour-long confidential meetings where members share their experience, strength, and hope. Members do not give advice or try to fix the alcoholic in their life — instead, the focus is on the family member’s own recovery. Newcomers are welcomed warmly and never required to speak. Some meetings focus on specific populations (parents, adult children, men, women, beginners, LGBTQ+, BIPOC).
Meeting Formats
In-person meetings in every US state and Canadian province. Electronic meetings via Zoom, WhatsApp, Skype, phone, email, and other platforms — including 24-hour meetings for people who need overnight support. Hybrid meetings combine both formats.
Who This Group Is For
Anyone whose life has been affected by someone else’s drinking — current or past, in recovery or still drinking. Family members of drug users are also welcome, though Nar-Anon may be a better fit (and is also free and peer-led). Alateen is the parallel program for teens aged 13–18.
Why Peer Support Works
Living with someone in active addiction or early recovery is isolating. Al-Anon connects you with people who understand without explanation, offers a structured 12-step program adapted for families, and shifts focus toward your own wellbeing rather than trying to control the person who drinks.
