ElderSource — Free Caregiver Burnout Support — NE Florida
ElderSource is the Area Agency on Aging serving Northeast Florida — Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns, and Volusia Counties — and offers a free Caregiver Burnout Support Program for unpaid family caregivers across the region. The program combines virtual peer support groups, one-on-one coaching, and connection to respite services, helping Jacksonville-area caregivers manage the long, exhausting work of caring for an older loved one.
What to Expect
The Caregiver Burnout Support Program offers free virtual support groups designed as a safe space to share information, voice personal feelings, and connect with others walking a similar path. Sessions are facilitated by trained staff who keep the space confidential and member-led. Caregivers can pair group attendance with individual coaching and referrals to community resources — respite scholarships, in-home help, adult day programs, and Medicare or Medicaid navigation. The program is specifically designed around the experience of caregiver burnout: the exhaustion, anxiety, anger, and grief that can accumulate when caregiving stretches over years.
Who This Group Is For
The program serves unpaid family caregivers of older adults across the seven-county ElderSource service area in Northeast Florida. Members include adult children caring for parents, spouses, partners, siblings, and friends who have become primary caregivers. There’s no income test for the support groups. Caregivers don’t need to share a home with their loved one to qualify. The virtual format makes it accessible for caregivers juggling full-time work, long commutes, and family responsibilities.
Why Peer Support Works
Caregiver burnout is the predictable consequence of a role that gives little notice, has no end date, and accumulates slowly. By the time a caregiver feels burned out, they often feel they don’t have time to do anything about it. The Caregiver Burnout Support Program is designed to interrupt that pattern early — putting caregivers in a regular weekly group where they can be honest about how they’re doing, hear from others further along the road, and trade strategies before reaching crisis.
