About Eating Disorders Anonymous

Eating Disorders Anonymous (EDA) Winchester is a peer-led twelve-step fellowship for individuals recovering from eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and other disordered eating patterns. EDA adapts the twelve-step model specifically for eating disorder recovery, recognizing that unlike substances, food cannot be eliminated and recovery involves developing a healthy, balanced relationship with eating rather than abstinence.

What Groups Are Offered?

The Winchester EDA group holds weekly peer-led meetings where members share their experiences with eating disorders and recovery, discuss coping strategies, and support one another’s healing journeys. Meetings follow the EDA twelve-step format, which emphasizes balance rather than abstinence, and include readings from EDA literature and open sharing time.

Who Can Join?

EDA is open to anyone with a desire to recover from an eating disorder. There are no requirements regarding specific diagnosis, treatment history, or stage of recovery. All types of eating disorders are welcome. The group provides a supportive complement to professional treatment rather than a replacement for it.

Meeting Schedule & Location

The Winchester group meets weekly on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM at the Friends Meeting House in Winchester, Virginia. The meeting is open to all who wish to attend.

What to Expect

EDA meetings are supportive, confidential gatherings where members share their experiences with eating disorders and recovery. The atmosphere is welcoming and non-judgmental. Meetings typically last about one hour and follow a structured format including readings and sharing. There is no pressure to speak—listening is always welcome. EDA uses language of “balance” rather than traditional twelve-step language about powerlessness, acknowledging the unique nature of eating disorder recovery.

Cost & Confidentiality

EDA meetings are free. A voluntary collection helps cover room rental. Anonymity is a foundational principle—members use first names only and what is shared in meetings is kept strictly confidential.
