The Eating Disorder Foundation — Free Virtual Support Groups
About The Eating Disorder Foundation Virtual Support Groups
The Eating Disorder Foundation (EDF) is one of the only completely free, non-clinical eating disorder resources in the country, with a roster of virtual support groups open to participants from anywhere in the U.S. and beyond. Based in Denver, Colorado, EDF’s online programs serve members regardless of income, insurance, weight, diagnosis, race, gender, or sexual identity — no referral or formal diagnosis is needed to attend.
What to Expect
Groups meet over Zoom on a recurring weekly schedule and run about 60 to 90 minutes. Each group has a designated facilitator who opens with guidelines around confidentiality and pro-recovery language, then invites members to share whatever feels relevant — recent struggles, victories, food fears, body image work, or how they’re navigating relationships in recovery. Cameras can be on or off. Newcomers are welcomed gently, and there’s no pressure to share before you’re ready. Many members describe the groups as the most consistent piece of their recovery week.
Who This Group Is For
EDF runs multiple virtual groups so that participants can find one tailored to their experience. Adult groups serve anyone 18+ who is struggling or in recovery from an eating disorder, disordered eating, or body image concerns. Identity-specific groups support trans+, gender nonconforming, intersex, and gender-diverse members, as well as participants within the broader LGBTQ+ community. There are also groups for family and friends of someone with an eating disorder, and for romantic partners of those navigating disordered eating. Every group is virtual, every group is free.
Why Peer Support Works
Eating disorders thrive on isolation, perfectionism, and the belief that no one else could possibly understand. Sitting in a Zoom room with people who name the exact thought spirals you’ve had — and who are still standing — is a quiet kind of medicine. EDF’s groups put community at the center of recovery, not as a replacement for clinical treatment, but as a steady, low-barrier space where members practice being honest, asking for help, and offering it back.
How to Join
