BEAM — Free Black Mental Health Peer Support Groups
BEAM (Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective) is a national training, movement-building, and grant-making organization dedicated to the healing, wellness, and liberation of Black and marginalized communities. BEAM offers training programs, an active digital community, in-person events in Los Angeles and Atlanta, virtual peer events nationwide, and Heart Space — a group support program led by Black therapists and wellness practitioners.
What to Expect
BEAM’s flagship peer support offering is Heart Space — small-group support sessions led by Black therapists and wellness practitioners that center the lived experiences of Black community members. Sessions are confidential and held virtually, making them accessible from anywhere in the country. BEAM also runs free trainings, monthly virtual workshops, healing rituals, and emotional wellness events, plus an active online community across Instagram and other platforms where Black mental health is discussed openly, gently, and without stigma.
Who This Group Is For
BEAM serves Black community members of all ages, gender identities, and backgrounds — with particular care for those who have been most marginalized within Black communities: queer and trans Black folks, Black women, and Black survivors of violence. The organization is intentional about including the full breadth of Black diaspora experience and the intersections it carries. BEAM also trains practitioners, educators, and community advocates who want to better serve Black mental wellness in their own work.
Why Peer Support Works
Black mental health has been historically underserved and culturally misunderstood in mainstream systems. Showing up in community with other Black folks, supported by Black therapists who understand the texture of the experience, dramatically lowers the threshold for honest conversation. BEAM’s combination of group support, training, healing events, and digital community gives members multiple entry points into wellness practice — they can show up where it fits and build from there.
How to Join
BEAM’s resources are free or low-cost depending on the program. Visit beam.community to see upcoming events, register for Heart Space and other peer offerings, join the email list, and explore the resource library. Many programs are virtual and open nationwide; in-person events run in Los Angeles and Atlanta.
