Aging Alone Together - DOROT - Free Solo Ager Support Series
Aging Alone Together® is DOROT’s flagship program for solo agers — people who expect to age, or make decisions about their future, independently. Over six weeks, participants join a community of fellow solo agers to learn positive, practical ways to prepare for the years ahead. It’s offered free of charge nationally online and in person in New York City.
What to Expect
The program runs as six 90-minute interactive weekly sessions — a recurring limited series — facilitated by trained discussion leaders. Sessions focus on the concerns solo agers raise most: building communities of support, figuring out where to live, preparing your home for aging in place, advance care planning, and the legal and financial matters that family might otherwise help navigate. Just as valuable as the curriculum is the cohort itself: a small group moving through the material together, week by week.
Who This Group Is For
Adults 60 and older who identify as solo agers — single, partnered without children, or otherwise planning to age without traditional family support. The online cohort serves participants across the country; in-person cohorts meet at DOROT in Manhattan and Westchester, and in community settings.
Why Peer Support Works
Solo agers often field the same anxious question — “but who will take care of you?” — without a ready answer. A cohort of peers replaces that isolation with planning and community: you stop explaining your situation and start building the network that answers the question. Moving through advance planning alongside others makes daunting tasks doable and turns a private worry into shared, proactive problem-solving.
How to Join
The series is free. View upcoming workshops and register through the Aging Alone Together page at dorotusa.org, or call DOROT at (212) 769-2850. Choose an online cohort from anywhere in the U.S., or an in-person cohort in NYC or Westchester.
