About This Group
Thresholds is one of the largest and most comprehensive community mental health organizations in Illinois, providing peer support services, drop-in recovery centers, and crisis respite in Chicago. The New Freedom Centers (two locations) are open seven days a week, offering art groups, life skills workshops, volunteer opportunities, and peer-led recovery support for individuals with serious mental health conditions.
What to Expect
The New Freedom Centers provide welcoming drop-in spaces where individuals can participate in structured groups and activities seven days a week. Programming includes art groups, life skills development, socialization activities, and volunteer opportunities — all in a peer-supported environment. Certified Recovery Support Specialists (CRSS) provide one-on-one peer mentoring. The Living Room program offers a 24/7 crisis respite space as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization, providing a calm, supportive environment during mental health crises.
