The Mighty — Free Online Community for Chronic Illness & Disability

Nationwide
Enrolling now

The Mighty is one of the largest online communities in the world for people with health conditions, disabilities, and mental health challenges. Founded on the premise that no one should face health challenges alone, The Mighty publishes first-person stories from community members, hosts active online forums and groups organized around hundreds of specific conditions, and connects millions of people with peers who share their experiences. The community is free to join and built around members supporting members.

What to Expect

The Mighty’s platform combines published stories, condition-specific groups, real-time peer Q&A, and structured prompts that invite community members to share experiences and respond to others. Hundreds of distinct condition communities exist — chronic illnesses (EDS, POTS, lupus, MS, IBS, endometriosis), disabilities, mental health conditions (anxiety, depression, bipolar, OCD), rare diseases, parenting through illness, caregiver experiences, and many more. Members can post questions, share what helped them, vent, ask for resources, and find others who have walked the road. The Mighty’s editorial team curates and amplifies stories while community members carry the day-to-day peer conversation.

Who This Group Is For

The Mighty welcomes anyone affected by a health condition, disability, or mental health challenge — directly or as a caregiver/family member. The platform’s breadth means members can find peer communities for very specific conditions (rare genetic disorders, specific autoimmune conditions, particular forms of cancer) alongside broader communities (chronic illness, parenting with disability, mental health). Members participate from all over the world, with a U.S.-heavy concentration. The free, on-demand format works well for members whose health makes scheduled meetings difficult.

Why Peer Support Works

For people with chronic illness, disability, and mental health challenges, finding peers — especially for less common conditions — can be the most meaningful part of managing the experience. The Mighty makes that connection accessible at scale: someone with a rare disease can find others worldwide; someone newly diagnosed can hear from others years into the same journey; someone in a flare at 2 a.m. can read posts from others who get it. The community-driven model means peer wisdom accumulates over time.

How to Join

The Mighty is free to join. Visit themighty.com to create an account, browse condition communities, read stories, and start engaging. Members can post anonymously or under their name, and content moderation keeps the space supportive. The platform also welcomes contributors who want to share their own stories publicly through The Mighty’s editorial process.
