Second Saturday — Free Divorce Workshops for Women Nationwide
Second Saturday is a nationwide network of monthly divorce workshops for women, run by the nonprofit Women’s Institute for Financial Education (WIFE.org). Founded in 1989 by financial educators Candace Bahr and Ginita Wall, Second Saturday now has locally sponsored chapters in major U.S. cities. Workshops bring together attorneys, divorce financial advisors, and therapists to cover the legal, financial, and emotional realities of divorce — all in a single Saturday session designed to give women a grounded understanding of what’s ahead.
What to Expect
Each Second Saturday workshop runs about three hours on a Saturday morning (some chapters meet on weekday evenings). Local divorce attorneys, certified divorce financial analysts, and licensed therapists or coaches present on their respective domains — Texas family law if you’re in Houston, California community property if you’re in San Francisco — followed by Q&A and time to connect with other women going through divorce. The format is part education, part peer connection. Many attendees describe leaving with both a clearer understanding of their options and a sense that they’re not alone.
Who This Group Is For
Second Saturday is for women considering, navigating, or recently completing divorce. Workshops welcome women at any stage — including those who haven’t yet told anyone they’re thinking about it. Members come from all economic and cultural backgrounds; the nonprofit structure means workshops are accessible regardless of ability to pay. Some chapters also welcome female allies (mothers, sisters, friends) attending in support of a woman going through divorce.
Why Peer Support Works
Divorce affects women particularly hard financially — and the financial complexity often gets tangled with the emotional weight, making it hard to make good decisions. Second Saturday answers that by giving women solid information and peer community in the same room. Hearing other women ask the same questions you’ve been afraid to ask, and meeting professionals who specialize in divorce, often transforms how a woman approaches the process.
