REBOOT — Free Combat Trauma Recovery for Veterans & Families
REBOOT Recovery (originally Military REBOOT and REBOOT Combat Recovery) is a 12-week, peer-led course that helps veterans, active-duty military members, first responders, and their families heal from service-related trauma. Since 2011, REBOOT has helped thousands of military families work through the spiritual, moral, and emotional wounds of war in a faith-based peer community setting. Spouses and families are encouraged to participate alongside veterans — the program is designed to support married couples in reopening communication and healing together.
What to Expect
REBOOT meets weekly for 12 weeks in small peer groups, typically hosted by partner churches and community organizations across the country. Each session combines video content, peer discussion, structured reflection, and prayer or shared spiritual practice. The curriculum addresses the specific spiritual and moral wounds of combat and service trauma — guilt, moral injury, anger, grief, loss of meaning, family disconnection — in addition to common PTSD symptoms. Sessions are facilitated by trained peers, often veterans and family members who have completed REBOOT themselves. The faith-based framing is explicitly Christian, though participants of any background are welcome.
Who This Group Is For
REBOOT serves combat veterans of all branches and eras, active-duty service members, first responders, and military family members affected by service-connected trauma. The program is particularly meaningful for veterans whose struggles include moral and spiritual dimensions — guilt over actions or choices, loss of faith, or a sense of meaning that didn’t survive the deployment. REBOOT’s family component makes it a fit for couples and families working to heal together, not just the veteran alone.
Why Peer Support Works
The peer-led, small-group format is core to REBOOT’s effectiveness. Veterans often describe how rare it is to find a space where they can talk honestly about the spiritual and moral weight of combat — most clinical settings stay neutral on those questions, and most faith communities don’t have the context to engage with combat trauma directly. REBOOT’s combination of peer facilitators (who have been through it), small group consistency (12 weeks with the same cohort), and explicitly spiritual content gives veterans a kind of space that’s hard to find elsewhere.
