Pikes Peak — Free Caregiver Support Groups in Colorado Springs

Enrolling now

The Family Caregiver Support Center, run by the Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging, offers free, in-person caregiver support in Colorado Springs through its monthly Caring Conversations group. Designed for adults who are caring for an older loved one — a spouse, a parent, an aging neighbor — the program combines a structured peer support group with respite vouchers, one-on-one care planning, and educational programs. Every service is offered at no cost; donations are accepted but never required, and no one is denied help because they can’t or choose not to contribute.

What to Expect

The signature Caring Conversations support group meets the second Thursday of each month from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging in Colorado Springs. The group is small, peer-driven, and led by experienced caregiver support staff who keep the space safe for honest conversation. Members talk about what’s actually happening — sleep loss, sibling tension, navigating Medicare, anticipatory grief, the moment of deciding to take the keys — and offer one another practical wisdom along with company. The Center also offers Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a six-week course that builds concrete self-care and communication skills, plus a Virtual Lunch and Learn series and individual planning consultations.

Who This Group Is For

Caring Conversations welcomes any adult over 18 who is caring for someone over 60, or any adult over 60 who is a primary caregiver. That includes adult children caring for parents, spouses supporting a partner with dementia, daughters-in-law coordinating long-distance care, and neighbors who have stepped into a caregiving role. Whether you’re newly in the role or have been at it for years, the group meets you where you are. The Center also serves caregivers from El Paso, Park, and Teller Counties through respite vouchers and planning support.

Why Peer Support Works

Family caregiving is one of the most demanding unpaid jobs in the country, and most caregivers do it without training, without backup, and without anyone asking how they are doing. A monthly support group breaks that pattern. Sitting around a table with other caregivers turns isolated experience into shared knowledge — the strategy that worked, the resource that saved a week, the thing nobody else would understand. Over time, the group also becomes a low-stakes place to be honest about how the role is changing you, and to be reminded that taking care of yourself is part of taking care of someone else.

How to Join

Caring Conversations is free and open to family caregivers — no registration required to attend.
