Pathfinders — Free Youth Crisis Shelter & 24/7 Peer Support — Milwaukee, WI
Pathfinders Youth Shelter is Milwaukee’s primary crisis resource for youth ages 11-17 — operating a 24/7 Crisis Line, a 24/7 Drop-In Center, emergency shelter, transitional housing, and ongoing peer support for young people experiencing housing instability, family crisis, or other emergencies. Founded decades ago, Pathfinders is a touchstone of youth support in Milwaukee and serves thousands of young people annually with free services, no questions asked.
What to Expect
Pathfinders’ youth crisis services include the 24/7 emergency shelter (for youth 11-17 with no outstanding warrants), drop-in center where youth can come anytime for a safe space, the 24/7 Crisis Line for youth in immediate need, street outreach team meeting youth where they are, ongoing peer support groups for young people navigating family conflict and housing instability, and transitional housing for older teens working toward stability. Programming includes life skills, education support, employment readiness, and connection to longer-term services. Peer relationships among Pathfinders youth often become a foundational support network.
Who This Group Is For
Pathfinders serves Milwaukee youth ages 11-17 in crisis — including runaway/homeless youth, youth experiencing family conflict, youth aging out of foster care, LGBTQ+ youth rejected by family, trafficked youth, and youth in other emergency situations. Services are free and no referral is required. The 24/7 model means youth can access Pathfinders anytime they need help. Family programming supports parents and caregivers when family reunification is appropriate.
Why Peer Support Works
For Milwaukee youth in crisis, having a 24/7 youth-focused resource creates the kind of reliable adult support that often isn’t available elsewhere. Pathfinders peer programming brings together youth navigating similar circumstances — and the resulting peer community is often where young people find the most lasting support. Many former Pathfinders youth return as adults to mentor the next generation.
