Free Veterans Peer Support — Ewa Beach, Oahu | Wounded Warrior Project
The AMVETS West Oahu Veterans Center at West Loch Annex serves as a hub for veterans, active-duty service members, and military families on Oʻahu — and once a month, part of that hub is turned over to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) for a peer support meeting built specifically around veterans supporting veterans.
What to Expect
WWP Peer Support Meetings are held in person at the AMVETS West Oahu Veterans Center hall on the third Wednesday of each month, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The meetings are part of AMVETS Hawaii’s broader community programming at the center, which also includes adaptive sports, suicide prevention outreach, and veteran wellness initiatives. The peer support format gives attendees a structured but informal space to connect with fellow veterans facing similar transitions and challenges.
Who This Group Is For
This meeting is for veterans, including those working through the invisible wounds of service — transition stress, PTSD, and the general adjustment of returning to civilian life. It sits within a larger ecosystem of support at the West Oahu Veterans Center, where AMVETS Hawaii also runs suicide prevention conferences, hospitalized veteran visits, and employment assistance, all oriented around the idea that veterans supporting veterans changes outcomes.
Why Peer Support Works
Veterans often say that civilian providers, however well-intentioned, can’t fully relate to military experience the way another veteran can. Peer support meetings like this one are built on that principle: shared service history creates a shorthand that makes it easier to be honest about what’s actually going on. Wounded Warrior Project has built its national programming around exactly this kind of veteran-to-veteran connection, and the AMVETS Hawaii location gives Oʻahu veterans a consistent, local place to access it.
How to Join
The meeting is free and open to veterans; no cost or referral is required to attend. It’s held at the AMVETS West Oahu Veterans Center, 5001 Iroquois Avenue, West Loch Annex (JBPHH), Ewa Beach, HI 96706. For more information, email admin@amvets-hawaii.org or call (808) 888-0410.
