Free LGBTQ+ Community Space - Minneapolis | Queermunity MN
Queermunity is an LGBTQIA+ resource center, social club, and gathering space in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis, committed to bringing the queer community together. The space is free and open to the public with no membership required — part event venue, part cafe, part community living room. Its stated aim is simple: making space for more connection, more collaboration, and more joy.
What to Expect
Queermunity hosts community-led programming in collaboration with partner organizations, much of it recurring. Friday Friend Lab runs Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m. with community, food, crafting, and board games; every second and fourth Friday adds a facilitated creative activity for teens and young adults, with all materials provided and lightly structured introductions and conversation prompts. A facilitated hangout for neurodivergent folks meets every third Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., with time for both discussion and free connection. The TC Queer Transplants Meet-up runs monthly on the fourth Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m., for people new to the Twin Cities. Partner organizations regularly bring services into the space, including MNsure navigation and trans health insurance enrollment assistance, community acupuncture, and recovery-focused community conversations. The building also holds a gallery, a makers market, a cafe, and rentable office and co-working space. Check the Queermunity events calendar for the current schedule, since programming rotates and some events require an RSVP.
Who This Group Is For
LGBTQIA+ people of all ages across the Twin Cities, plus friends and allies. Distinct offerings serve teens and young adults, neurodivergent community members, and people who have recently moved to the area — three groups for whom finding a foothold is genuinely hard. Some events require masks; details are listed per event.
Why Peer Support Works
Queer community has historically been built in physical spaces, and the Twin Cities lost several of them in recent years. That loss matters more than it sounds: a place you can walk into without a diagnosis, an appointment, or a reason is a different kind of support than a scheduled group. Low-stakes recurring gatherings — crafts, games, a standing Friday — let relationships form at their own pace, which suits people for whom formal support settings feel like too much. For LGBTQIA+ people facing hostile messaging elsewhere, an unremarkable place to simply exist is protective in its own right.
