Free First Responder Peer Support — Northern Colorado | FRTS

First Responder Trauma Services (FRTS) is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated entirely to the emotional, psychological, and behavioral health of the people who answer the call — police officers, firefighters, EMS providers, dispatchers, and other frontline workers. Founded on the belief that no responder should face trauma alone, FRTS offers free, confidential peer support delivered by people who have lived the job and understand it from the inside.

What to Expect
FRTS connects first responders and frontline workers with trained peer supporters for one-on-one and group conversations — in person at their center in Windsor, over the phone, or online. Support is built around trust, integrity, and confidentiality. Whether you’re carrying the weight of a single hard call or years of accumulated stress, peer supporters listen without judgment and help you find the next right resource. The organization also offers crisis response, education, and community-based wellness programming, and trains new peer supporters through a Colorado POST-approved Peer Support Academy.

Who This Group Is For
This program is for active, retired, and former first responders and frontline workers — sworn and non-sworn, across law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch, and healthcare — as well as their families. If your work has exposed you to trauma, loss, or chronic stress, you belong here. Seeking support is treated as a sign of strength, not weakness.

Why Peer Support Works
First responders often carry experiences that are hard to explain to those outside the profession. Peer support pairs responders with others who have stood in the same boots, which lowers stigma and makes it easier to open up. Talking with someone who truly understands can interrupt isolation, ease the shame that keeps people silent, and connect responders to help earlier — before a crisis takes hold.
