Free Children's Grief Groups — Melbourne | Bright Star

The Bright Star Center for Grieving Children and Families, a program of Health First, provides free grief support for children and teens ages 5 to 18 and their families in Brevard County. Its specialized program empowers young people to thrive after loss through education, emotional support, and creative play.

What to Expect
Groups typically meet twice per month for 90-minute sessions. In a safe, supportive environment, children and teens connect with peers, express their grief, and find ways to honor their loved ones, while parents and guardians meet in a companion group. Creative play and age-appropriate activities help younger children process feelings that are hard to put into words.

Who This Group Is For
This is for grieving children and teens ages 5-18 and their caregivers in the West Melbourne and greater Brevard County area. All services are offered at no cost to the community.

Why Peer Support Works
Grieving children benefit enormously from meeting others who have experienced a death. Peer support groups reduce the sense of being different or alone, and give both children and their caregivers language, ritual, and connection to move through grief together.

How to Join
All services are free. Contact a Bright Star coordinator at 321-434-7622 or brightstar@hf.org to learn about current groups and enrollment — varies, see https://www.hf.org/healthcare-home/departments-services/hospice/bright-star-program.
