Free Autism Family Support - MS Gulf Coast | Caiden's Corner

Caiden’s Corner — The Ausome Families Foundation — is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting autism families across the Mississippi Gulf Coast with community, resources, and sensory-friendly events. It was founded in 2025 by Alyece Smith after her own family’s autism diagnosis dropped them into a world of appointments, waitlists, and paperwork with no clear direction, and it was built for the families still living that.

What to Expect

The core peer offering is an online support group: a judgment-free space where parents and caregivers connect, share, vent, and find understanding from people who get it. It runs continuously rather than on a meeting schedule, so you can post at 2 a.m. when something has just gone wrong — which is frequently when autism parents need other autism parents most. Alongside it, Caiden’s Corner runs regular sensory-friendly events where children can participate without overwhelm or overstimulation, and where families meet each other in person. The Parent Resource Vault is free with no sign-up required and covers IEP guides and school advocacy, understanding a diagnosis, therapy and funding resources, sensory-friendly home tips, local Gulf Coast services, and caregiver self-care. Biloxi Sensory Sacks — noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, and communication aids — are free at MGM Park Guest Services for every Shuckers home game, and a Mobile Sensory Unit is in development to bring quiet zones and sensory tools to community events across the coast.

Who This Group Is For

Parents and caregivers of autistic children on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, including families still early in the diagnosis process. Programming spans Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson County communities, with the foundation based in Kiln. Families at every stage are welcome, from newly diagnosed to well into school advocacy.

Why Peer Support Works

Parenting an autistic child means becoming an expert in systems nobody prepared you for — special education law, therapy funding, sensory regulation — usually while exhausted and often while fielding judgment from people who assume they are watching a discipline problem. Other autism parents are the only people who reliably skip that assumption. They are also the fastest source of accurate local knowledge: which providers have openings, which school districts respond to what, which places are actually accommodating. Sensory-friendly events add something the online group cannot, letting families be in public together without the calculation about whether it will go badly.
