About Center for Discovery — Support in Recovery

Center for Discovery and Discovery Mood & Anxiety host Support in Recovery, a roster of completely free online eating disorder and mental health support groups open to anyone affected by an eating disorder, disordered eating, or a mental health concern. The groups meet weekly over Zoom and are facilitated by trained staff, with no diagnosis, referral, or insurance required to attend.

What to Expect
Each group runs about 60 minutes on a secure, HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform. There is no RSVP required for most groups — you can join anonymously if you wish, with your camera off and using a first name or alias. Sessions are conversational and peer-driven: a facilitator opens with grounding and group agreements, and members are invited (never required) to share what they’re working through, what helped or didn’t help that week, or simply to listen. Topics tend to land on recovery setbacks, body image, food fear, family dynamics, and small wins. The atmosphere is gentle and judgment-free.

Who This Group Is For
Discovery’s Support in Recovery groups serve adults 18+ at any stage of recovery — whether you’re newly aware of disordered patterns, in active treatment, or years into healing. Specific groups exist for individuals in recovery, loved ones, binge eating disorder, Spanish-speaking members, community meal support, neurodivergent alumni (SENSE Program), and a mental health track for those navigating anxiety or depression. Healthcare and mental health professionals working with eating disorder patients also have a dedicated peer space.

Why Peer Support Works
Eating disorder recovery often feels isolating because so much of the struggle happens internally — around shame, secrecy, and self-criticism. Hearing other people speak openly about thoughts you assumed only you had is one of the most stigma-reducing experiences in recovery. Discovery’s groups give members the chance to feel seen, to test out vulnerable conversations in a low-stakes setting, and to borrow hope from others who are a few steps further along.

How to Join
Visit the Center for Discovery groups page and click the link for the specific group you’d like to attend — each one has its own Zoom registration link with the recurring meeting day and time across U.S. time zones. Most groups meet weekly; a few run on a monthly or bi-weekly schedule. All groups are free of charge. Note that Discovery’s groups are peer support and are not a substitute for clinical treatment. For in-person eating disorder recovery support, the Maitland, FL location offers Thursday evening sessions.
