Bereavement Support Groups - Providence Hospice - Free, Oregon
Providence Hospice extends bereavement support to individuals and families across Oregon who are grieving the death of a loved one — and every one of its services is offered free of charge. Whether you’re in the Portland metro area or the Columbia Gorge, professionally trained facilitators create a supportive space for grief.
What to Expect
Bereavement support groups center on sharing your experiences of coping with grief while learning about the grieving process from a trained facilitator, who fosters mutual support among participants. Groups serve adults, and dedicated children’s grief groups in the Columbia Gorge — offered by Providence Hospice of the Gorge — meet every other Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m., September through April, at Riverside Community Church in Hood River. Individualized grief support is available in the Hood River, The Dalles, and Marion County areas, and the “Seven Strategies: Coping with the Recent Death of a Loved One” class supports those who have lost someone within the past year. All groups and classes are free; registration is required.
Who This Group Is For
Adults, children, and teens across Oregon grieving the death of a significant person. You don’t need a prior connection to Providence Hospice to attend — groups are open to anyone seeking extra support in their grief.
Why Peer Support Works
Grief groups pair two things that heal: learning about the grieving process from a trained facilitator, and giving and receiving mutual support from others walking the same road. That combination normalizes the disorienting reality of loss, offers practical coping strategies, and replaces isolation with a community that understands.
